Las Animas, CO (Bent County courthouse in left corner)
16 miles today – 1649 miles total!
Hasty, CO – Las Animas, CO
Early 6am start today. My eyes were heavy from tossing & turning last night; however, beautiful landscapes and cool morning breezes soon lifted my spirits!
We were very fortunate to get an early start today, as the weather reached 104 degrees in Las Animas, CO! Just a couple miles shy of finishing we were suprised by a good friend from Denver, Forest Ray. I saw his beard through the window and as soon as he pulled next to me his hand was out with a ‘PICTURE PERFECT’ cold beer. I can’t tell you how happy this made me – to see a familiar face & to sip a cold beer – ah, nothing better sometimes. He kept most of my stuff in his car while I finished the walk and we met for lunch at a local cafe. We talked about ‘all-things’ wandering, living, dreaming, simplifying, farming, building, and traveling. He is quality and I hope he sticks around Denver for when I return home in November!
We are currently hiding from the intense heat and will soon be making our way to the sheriff’s office where we will be taken care of by a wonderful local family here in Las Animas – THANK you Father God for watching over our safety and for helping others feel comfortable taking us in!
THANK YOU Bent County Library for helping us today!
THANK YOU Bent County Sheriff Dept. for taking us in tonight!
THANK YOU Whited family for dropping us off this morning!
THANK YOU Forest Ray for making our day today!
THANK YOU Teri Finan for continuing to help us connect w/locals as we make our way!
