15 Miles Today – 59 Total!
Denton – Wye Mills, MD

Greetings!

I come to you from the ‘cushy’ floor of a small town sauna…I mean, parish library @ Old Wye Parish Episcopal Church in Wye Mills, Maryland….original structure built in late 1700′s!! btw…

I do not have access to uploading a video; therefore, you have my jumbled words being formed by my big thumbs punching the keyboard of my phone!

Today was a loooong day of mostly following the busy 404 hwy towards the Chesapeake Bay Bridge! We did, however start off the day wiith brisk winds, dunken donuts, and more hawks. Shortly after leaving our starting town of Denton, MD we were joined by a man orig. From south africa who craves to be out walking…we talked trail talk & economy buzz until he had to turn back home. We were greeted by several locals today which saved the depths of hwy roars reaching my mental limits. All of that said, my night ended with an incredible couple of hours with the pastor here at the Church….we shared, laughed, and dove into great things throughout the conversation…I can say I am truly loving my time with people!

Kanoa is doing great btw…he has been MUCH more relaxed at night and I feel is finally ‘somewhat’ engaging his inner workdog//herding instincts! He captures SO many people a day…I love it, he really is an amazing dog.

Well, I just opened all the windows and am finally cooling off in this here library! I will leave you until tomorrow while on my way to Kent Island.

Cheers,

Jonathon & Kanoa

THANK YOU to The Old Wye Church for hosting us!

    Great to read your stories :)

    Your walk reminds me so much of Walt Whitman’s ‘Song of the Open Road’ –

    “I think heroic deeds were all conceiv’d in the open air, and all great poems also;
    I think I could stop here myself, and do miracles;”

    “I carry them, men and women—I carry them with me wherever I go;
    I am fill’d with them, and I will fill them in return.”

    “I inhale great draughts of space;
    The east and the west are mine, and the north and the south are mine.

    I am larger, better than I thought;
    I did not know I held so much goodness.

    All seems beautiful to me;
    I can repeat over to men and women, You have done such good to me, I would do the same to you.”

    You must read this, if you haven’t as yet – http://www.americanpoems.com/poets/waltwhitman/13219.

    Since unfortunately I can’t offer you food, shelter, companionship or conversation along your way, let me send you poems :)

    Hi Jonathon,
    Sounds like you and Kanoa had another enriching and fulfilling day. I sort of feel like I’m vicariously taking this trip with you two. I also realize how much more immediate the videos are compared to text. Enjoy Kent Island.

    Hey, Good Morning (Afternoon, Whatever ?!) As my Granddad used to say, hopefully your dogs are not howling, (literally and figuratively) Looked like it was mighty brisk out there on day four, but you must be acclimated by now, being from Colorado and whatnot. I have not been following kiva as religiously as I have in the past, so was not aware of you plans but can be sure we will be following your travels until you make it to SFO. Walking with a dog makes things so much more fun. I find I am much more energetic and less cognicent of the distance I have travelled with Bentley by my side. Enjoy the beauty of each day – Safe travels and God Bless

    Hi, I’m a huge KIVA fan already and admire you enormously for your walk. You’re doing what many of us wish we had the guts and energy to do! Best of luck and keep the updates coming – we’re keen to hear how your journey progresses and hope KIVA benefits proportionately.
